Preliminary Information Memorandum (PIM) For Strategic Disinvestment of Air India issued

That the newly constituted Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism (AISAM), headed by Hon’ble Home Minister and comprising of Union Ministers of Commerce & Industry, Finance & Corporate Affairs and Civil Aviation, as members, has approved the release of the Preliminary Information Memorandum (PIM) for inviting Expression of Interest (EOI) from the Interested Bidders (IBs) for Strategic Disinvestment of Air India. He informed that the Government has released the PIM for seeking EOI for strategic disinvestment of Air India.

Biometric enabled Centralised Access Control System (CACS) &Training Module of e-BCAS Project launched – Aims to digitise employee movement process at airport

Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State (I/C) for Civil Aviation launched the Biometric enabled Centralised Access Control System (CACS) and ‘e-BCAS Project Training Module’, in the presence of senior officials of the Ministry of Civil aviation (MoCA) and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The two projects launched are important milestones to enhance security and ease of doing business at airports. A MoU was signed between ECIL and BCAS on 17th December 2015 with an overall investment of Rs.34.92 crore.

DGCA launches phase 1 services of e-Governance project, automates issuance of CPL

Phase-1 services of the e-Governance (eGCA) project of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was launched by Shri Pradeep Singh Kharola, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation. With this launch, the issue of Commercial Pilot License (CPL-A) with Flight Radio Telephony Operators License (FRTOL) and Instrument Rating has been automated. The applicants would now be able to fill up their flying details through DGCA portal, after getting themselves registered. Subsequently, after getting the flying details verified by the Chief Flight Instructors / Dy. Chief Flight Instructors, the applicants would be able to submit their applications for issuance of CPL-A online to DGCA.

Hardeep S Puri holds high level meeting with State Governments on issues related to Civil Aviation via VC

As part of the ongoing series of meetings with States and UT s on giving further thrust to the Civil Aviation sector in the country, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State(I/c) for Civil Aviation held another high level meeting with H’ble Ministers, Chief secretaries of West Bengal, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Jharkand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. Along with laying stress on the need for reducing VAT on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) with immediate effect it was also informed by the Secretary, MoCA that the ministry has been requesting GST council to consider ATF to be brought within the ambit of GST and states support was also requested in this matter so that Domestic Airlines can sustain their commercial operations.

4 Airports/Airstrips & 6 Water Aerodromes in Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep Island Region up for Bidding under UDAN 4.0

With a focus on connectivity of Islands, UDAN 4.0 scheme under the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has invited bids for 3 unserved airports/airstrips in Andaman & Nicobar Island and 1 underserved airport/airstrip in Lakshadweep Island. The ministry has also recognized 4 Water Aerodromes locations in Andaman & Nicobar Island and 2 in Lakshadweep Island that is up for bidding. The efforts are in the direction to provide aerial connectivity to the region.

Government May exclude 50,000 crore of Air India debt to Lure Buyers

The government is considering a plan to exclude more than half of Air India Ltd.'s $11 billion of debt in the government's latest attempt to lure investors to the struggling carrier. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration plans to ask proposed investors to take over Rs 30,000 crore of the airline's debt, which are backed by the carrier's aircraft, asking not to be identified, citing private information. The government may call for the so-called expression of interest as early as December 15.

Air India buyer may be allowed to rename airline

Potential buyers of Maharaja are unlikely to have any pre-condition for retaining the brand name Air India (AI) and be free to rename the airline after acquiring. The first attempt to sell off the debt-laden airline in March 2018 had stipulated that the successful bidder would have to retain Al brand name for a specific period, which would have been spelt out in the request for proposal. It had condition that Al was to be run on an “arm’s length basis” for at least three years during which it was not to be merged with any other entity and would need to maintain its identity as a separate airline- meaning that the brand would have to be retained for at least that long.

Government set to halve Air India baggage before sell off

The government is all set to repay a big chunk of air India’s loans, removing a key hurdle in the privatisation of the stricken public sector carrier that was once the pride of India’s skies. It has finished raising Rs 22, 000 crore through issue of bonds, of which Rs 7,985 crore was raised on Thursday. This along with the transfer of Rs 7646 crore of local bonds to the accounts of air India Asset Holdings (AIAHL) from air India will almost halve the carrier’s nearly Rs 58,000 crore loans.
